David Black and Tim Fraser, who work in Bower Bailey’s Clinical Negligence department, have contributed to a chapter in the leading clinical negligence textbook, “Clinical Negligence” (sixth edition) by Dr Michael Powers KC and Anthony Barton.

The book covers the law and process behind clinical negligence claims and is a key text for practitioners. It is split into two sections: the legal aspects of clinical negligence and the risks associated with particular areas of specialist clinical negligence. Each chapter is written by a legal or medical specialist in the field of clinical negligence and covers topics including causation, consent and funding. The chapter by David and Tim, titled “The Conduct of Proceedings”, was written alongside High Court Judge Master Cook, and concerns the process of bringing proceedings in clinical negligence claims.

Below is an overview of the textbook that can be found on the publisher’s website:

“I would highly recommend this book…It is high quality, clear and comprehensive and will no doubt prove an invaluable source of reference. Five stars on all counts.” Tim Kevan, co-editor, PIBULJ.COM

This book remains the only text of its kind to cover both the medical and legal aspects of medical negligence. Written by a team of more than 60 experts, it continues to provide the most comprehensive and authoritative guidance on all aspects of clinical negligence claims, from bringing an action for damages to presenting expert evidence in court. It also includes detailed consideration of funding and cost implications.

Those needing clear guidance to make the best possible preparations for an action will find all they need here.

The new 6th edition has been fully revised and restructured, including new chapters on the future of clinical negligence litigation, cardiology, gynaecology, obstetrics, haematology, and also includes coverage and analysis of recent key cases.
